This Year's Jewelry Trends

This Year's Jewelry Trends

Silver Lining

Trendsetters have traditionally gone for yellow gold as the metal of choice, but for this year, they have chosen to go on a silver streak. Thank goodness because silver goes with everything!

The History of Wearing Earrings

The History of Wearing Earrings

Earrings are among the oldest types of jewelry and they can be found on every continent throughout history. But how did earrings first come into fashion?

Ear piercing is possibly the oldest form of piercing in the world. It has been used to indicate rank, status or to display wealth. Sometimes, ears were pierced for religious reasons, as is still common in some Hindu traditions. We can already find examples of earrings in early history

How are Lampwork Beads made?

I use lampwork beads a lot in my work, I pick them out especially by hand. But rather than just talk about the designs, let get into how they are made.  Lampwork beads are unique as they are made by hand and out of molten glass. The technique used to make them is called lampworking, hence where the name comes from.

Things you might not know about Handmade Jewelry.

Owning at least one piece of handmade jewelry is a “must-have” for every closet. It can be from a one of a kind that you have searched for or a piece you pick up while you are on vacation. Handmade jewelry has a certain appeal about it that you can’t help but want one for yourself. My theory is because of the effort and love that the artisans put into their craft.
The History of Giving Jewelry as a Gift

The History of Giving Jewelry as a Gift

Almost everyone has given or received a piece of jewelry as a gift at some point in their lives. We love to give our loved ones rings, necklaces, or bracelets for special occasions, such as graduations, engagements, weddings, births, and anniversaries. These objects will often have a special meaning to us, because of the occasion and our relationship to the person who gave them to us.

In jewelry, there are many gorgeous purple gemstones, some of the most popular including amethyst, tanzanite, and lolite. The shades vary greatly from tanzanite’s almost blue color to amethyst’s bright hue to the translucent lavender of taaffeite, but they all have their own special, unique feature. In the Lampwork glass world, there are a wide range of purple glass colors that can be used to create lampwork beads.

The Long History of Earrings

It seems crazy to write this, but here it is: Earrings have been popular for 7,000 years. Yes, 7,000! I can't really think of anything else that has remained a fad for that long. Beaded earrings remain a fashionable accessory today, but I was surprised by the many interesting tidbits in their history.

Consider Jewelry as a "Push Present" for a new mom.

Consider Jewelry as a "Push Present" for a new mom.

I have always called this a "mommy gift", but the actual term is apparently a push present. Commonly given to a new mother after giving birth, a push present is a moment for a keepsake gift. Jewelry and birthstones are frequently given on these occasions. It is a great way to celebrate a new arrival and to show your love.
