The Paris Pink Frit Experiment: From Inspiration to Handmade Lampwork Beads
Since its introduction, my original Paris Rose frit blend has become one of the most popular collections in my floral series. Artists are drawn to its soft romantic palette, while I'm continually fascinated by how differently it performs depending on the lampworking or glassblowing technique. Whether used in mosaic, swirl, or other applications, the same blend reveals completely different personalities. This article traces the evolution of the blend from the original experiment to newer refinements as I continue searching for the perfect pink-inspired palette. What happens if I gently nudge one ingredient or add a new ingredient? What happens if the ratios are adjusted slightly?
Paris Pink Frit Blend
When I look at the original Paris Pink beads, I'm reminded of blooming pink camellias. Their layered petals, vibrant pink hues, and soft white highlights closely resemble the colors that unexpectedly came together in this blend. What began as a happy accident has since become the foundation for my entire Paris Collection.

Version One - Paris Rose - Vintage Garden
Every frit experiment begins with a vision, and for Paris Rose, that vision was simple: capture the quiet elegance of blooming roses in glass. Rather than creating another bright floral blend, I wanted to explore softer, more romantic colors inspired by Parisian gardens, vintage florals, and delicate watercolor paintings. This experiment became a journey into layering blush pinks, dusty roses, lavender, creamy whites, and muted grays and mauves to see how they would transform in the flame. To accomplish this, I reduced the bolder pinks and added creamier colors. This created some beautiful pinks with hints of gray accents in both sets of beads.

Version Two - Paris Peony - Pink Blossoms
One of the things I enjoy most about developing original frit blends is that they continue to evolve. Every firing teaches me something new about how the colors interact in the flame. While I loved the soft gray and mauve veining that emerged in the original Paris Rose blend, I wanted to create a version that embraced a purer pink palette. This time, I drew inspiration from blooming peonies, with layers of delicate blush, soft pink, and richer rose tones.

Paris Peony Frit Blend
The Paris Peony frit blend creates soft floral beads with delicate blush pinks, creamy whites, and fresh spring colors inspired by blooming peony flowers.
Here are the beads fresh out of the kiln! What do you think? Did this variation capture the soft, delicate beauty of blooming peonies? I was hoping for a blend with gentle blush pinks, creamy whites, and subtle pastel tones that felt light and romantic rather than bold. The finished beads have a floral, watercolor quality that reminds me of peony petals layered together, especially over the lighter base glass colors. After seeing the results, I think Paris Peony is the perfect name for this blend. It feels like a natural addition to the Paris Collection while offering its own unique personality.

Version Three - Paris Lilac - Cool Lavenders
Paris Lilac introduced a cooler, more floral direction to the Paris Collection. By increasing the violet tones while maintaining the soft pink foundation, the blend developed a beautiful balance of blush pinks, creamy whites, and delicate lavender accents. The mosaic beads showcase organic floral patterns in which pinks and violets mingle naturally, evoking spring lilac blossoms. While the overall palette remains soft and feminine, the subtle violet highlights give Paris Lilac a distinctly cooler personality than Paris Pink, Paris Rose, or Paris Peony, making it an elegant choice for jewelry designs inspired by blooming gardens and pastel florals.

Paris Peony and Paris Lilac Swirl Beads - Side-by-Side
Under certain lighting, the color difference between the swirl beads was not so great that I could easily tell them apart. However, when you look at them side by side, you can clearly see the difference in color. One is a softer pink, while the other is a cooler lavender shade.

Final Thoughts
What began as a simple experiment with my original Paris Pink frit blend quickly evolved into an entire floral-inspired collection. By making small adjustments to the recipe, each variation developed its own distinct personality while still preserving the vibrant pink foundation that inspired the series.
Paris Rose offers a romantic, vintage-inspired palette with soft blush tones and creamy highlights reminiscent of classic English garden roses. Paris Peony shifts toward a lighter, fresher look, with delicate pink florals that capture the layered beauty of blooming peonies. Paris Lilac introduces gentle lavender accents, creating a cooler pastel palette inspired by spring lilac blossoms. It's amazing how just a few subtle changes can transform the mood of a blend while still feeling unmistakably connected to the original.
Of course, the experimentation doesn't stop here. My next variation will explore warmer romantic hues by introducing soft oranges and gentle reds to capture the glowing colors of a Paris sunset. I can't wait to see what comes out of the kiln next!
