Pumpkin Spice Frit Blend: The Colors of a Cozy Autumn
There is something magical about the first cool mornin
g after a long summer.
The air feels lighter. Golden sunlight filters through the trees, pumpkins begin to appear on front porches, and the comforting aroma of cinnamon, vanilla, maple, and warm spices drifts from kitchens once again. It's a season that invites us to slow down, enjoy the changing landscape, and appreciate the simple beauty that surrounds us.
That quiet feeling became the inspiration behind Pumpkin Spice Frit Blend.
Rather than creating a bold seasonal orange, I wanted to capture the softer side of autumn: the warm creams of fresh pumpkin pie, the glow of afternoon sunlight, weathered heirloom pumpkins, rich caramel, toasted vanilla, and the gentle colors that make the harvest season feel so welcoming.
As the frit melts in the flame, those colors begin to tell their own story.
Sometimes they stretch into graceful swirling ribbons that resemble flowing caramel and maple syrup folded through creamy pumpkin filling. Other times they separate into organic mosaic patterns reminiscent of heirloom gourds, scattered autumn leaves, and rustic harvest displays. Each technique reveals a different personality, allowing every bead to become a unique expression of the same autumn palette.
One of my favorite discoveries while developing Pumpkin Spice was how beautifully it responded to different base glass colors. White and ivory bases create bright harvest mosaics, while cream, warm neutrals, and transparent glass soften the palette into glowing caramel, toasted honey, and warm apricot tones. Every bead becomes a little different, yet they all remain unmistakably connected.
Perhaps that's one of the reasons autumn feels so special.
No two leaves are exactly alike. No two pumpkins share the same colors or markings. Nature celebrates variation, and glass often does the same. The subtle reactions, flowing movement, and layered colors are what make each finished piece feel alive.
Pumpkin Spice frit isn't about Halloween or bright seasonal decorations. It's about those quieter moments that make autumn memorable: a warm drink on a cool morning, sunlight across a wooden table, pumpkins gathered after harvest, and the comforting colors that return year after year.
Those are the moments I hoped to capture in glass.
