Ocean Mist: Frit and Three Ways to Use It

Some frit blends are designed to do one thing well.

Ocean Mist isn’t one of them.

Ocean Mist is a cool, coastal-inspired lampwork frit blend. This palette was built around cool blues, soft greens, gentle purples, and airy whites, but what makes it interesting is how differently it behaves depending on how it’s used in the flame.

From the same frit, you can create soft, blended beads, more defined mosaic styles, or something right in between. The swirl beads created a soft, airy blend, where the mosaic style is bolder.

The Ocean Mist Frit

Ocean Mist is a cool, coastal-inspired frit blend designed to create soft movement and natural color flow.

Blues and teals form the base, while touches of pink, lavender, and white soften everything into a more diffused, layered look. Subtle blush tones appear here and there, adding variation without taking over the palette.

When melted, the colors:

• blend easily
• shift gently
• create depth without harsh contrast

It’s a blend that leans more atmospheric than bold, but still has enough variation to keep each bead unique.

Soft Swirl Beads

This is where Ocean Mist becomes the most fluid.

When worked into swirls and lightly blended, the colors melt into each other, creating soft transitions and layered movement, creating:

• soft transitions
• layered movement
• a watercolor-like effect

Blues, greens, and purples don’t stand apart; they move together, forming beads that feel calm and cohesive. These almost have a watercolor effect, the way the colors blend together. Sometimes you get purples, pinks, or even greens depending on which pieces dominate.

These are perfect for:

• sets with a consistent look
• designs that need subtle movement
• soft, ocean-inspired pieces

Mosaic Beads

Used more heavily or left less blended, Ocean Mist shifts into a more mosaic-style effect, where individual colors remain visible rather than fully merging. The colors themselves are partially reactive and will spread and create subtle webbing when used over reactive base glass.

Here, the individual colors stay more visible, creating:

• small fragments of color
• organic, mosaic-like patterns
• more variation from bead to bead

You’ll see hints of lavender, blush, blue, and green appearing as separate elements, giving each bead a more detailed, layered look.

These work well for:

• focal beads
• more expressive designs
• pieces where variation is part of the appeal

Balanced Beads

Somewhere between swirl and mosaic is the most balanced expression of the blend. These are partially encased with added shimmering gold aventurine accents.

In these beads, the colors are partially blended but still retain some definition, creating:

• soft movement with visible color variation
• a mix of flow and structure
• a natural, painterly feel
• an elegant designer look

This is often the most versatile style, offering both cohesion and interest within a single design.
